An Simple Analysis of the Automation Control System in Flour Mill Production
The production in a flour mill is a complex system engineering task, especially for large and medium size flour mills. In the past, the control devices in flour mills mostly used buttons, switches, relays, and contactors, which were distributed and could only achieve manual control of individual or a few pieces of equipment. They were not able to control the entire production line from the perspective of production technology. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a universial microcomputer control device that has developed rapidly in recent years and has a wide range of applications. It not only has superior control performance and a good cost-effectiveness ratio but also has good reliability and anti-interference capabilities. It has been widely used in various fields of automatic control. Due to its modular structure and various flexible and convenient software programming methods, it is favored by all industries. At present, PLC automation control mode is widely adopted in flour mills. (Excerpted from the application of PLC in the control system of flour mills).
With the rapid development of computer and network technology, the control system of flour mills basically adopts the PLC control method, and the signal transmission adopts the 485 industrial network. The entire system structure is simple, and the wiring level is clear, with almost no switches or buttons, no intermediate relays, and the lines from the site to the central control room are reduced to a minimum. This completely changed the past complex situation of hundreds of signals, from the site to the control room. The damage caused by rats in the grain industry is the most troublesome thing, and it is very common for rats to bite the lines, causing short circuits and open circuits. No matter how advanced the computer is, if the feedback signal fails, its action will also be wrong. The adoption of the 485 network has reduced the lines from the site to the control room to the minimum, which brings great convenience to users for long-term maintenance work in the future, thereby ensuring that the automatic control system can operate normally for a long time. Generally, a flour mill has five production sections: silos, initial cleaning, moisture conditioning, milling, and finishing. Each of these sections can be operated in both manual and automatic modes. There is a local selection switch for each motor on the production line, allowing each motor to be selected for manual or automatic operation. The software specifically includes an equipment offline request item, which allows for the disconnection of equipment that is not intended to be used due to a fault through the software. This gives the PLC a high degree of flexibility when starting equipment, so that a fault in one piece of equipment will not cause the entire production line to be unable to start automatically. We used this five-section mode in the 300-ton wheat production line in Egypt. This system uses an industrial computer, and the software main menu is divided into six items, which can be accessed by using the mouse or keyboard to select the corresponding position and then pressing to enter.
Flour production line distributed control system main menu:
Production process monitoring
Current and flour rate monitoring
Equipment offline request
Report viewing
Workshop parameter setting
Exit
After the operator clicks on the production process monitoring, they enter the monitoring page for each layer of equipment, where they can clearly see the operation of each piece of equipment on the line.
Clicking on the current and flour rate monitoring allows for the immediate inspection of whether each motor is overloaded. If it is, adjustments can be made through the section, which is simple and convenient. This helps to avoid damage to the motor due to overload. (Excerpted from the automatic control system of the flour mill, for reference and possible modification and supplementation).
In summary, the PLC programming software has become very sophisticated. Its application in flour mills has improved the factory's electrical environment, greatly reduced the labor intensity of workers, and increased production efficiency. It is the preferred choice for the automation of flour mill production.
